Hooks and strength

The five Claude Code hooks, what opencode, Cursor and Codex get instead, and prism strength full, lite or off.

Hooks are how Prism joins the session. Strength is how much of that you want.

Claude Code

prism install claude registers five hooks.

MomentWhat Prism does
Session startThe rules, and on full a short orientation.
PromptThe file list for a change request, and the lens.
Before an editDenies a generated or vendor file. Warns when a file needs sign-off.
After an editNotes a high-blast file, and that the receipt will say whether a test reaches it.
StopRuns the checks and prints the verdict.

opencode

prism install opencode writes a plugin. It runs session start (session.created), before an edit, after an edit, and stop. Stop runs on session.idle, and the verdict is written to opencode’s app log. There is no prompt hook, so a lens arrives through prepare_change when you name it.

Cursor and Codex

prism install cursor writes ~/.cursor/mcp.json and prints that the rule needs prism install cursor --project in each repository (.cursor/rules/prism.mdc).

prism install codex writes the MCP block in ~/.codex/config.toml and a rule in ~/.codex/AGENTS.md. --project writes the rule into that repository’s AGENTS.md instead.

Install also turns on the receipt tool for Cursor, Codex and opencode.

Strength

prism strength
prism strength lite
prism strength off --repo
LevelWhat the hooks do
fullThe default. Session, prompt, both edit hooks, and the stop receipt.
liteSession rules and the stop receipt. The prompt and edit hooks stay quiet.
offThe hooks say nothing. MCP tools still answer when called.

Without --repo, the level is written to ~/.prism/config.json. --repo writes .prism/config.json for this repository, and that one wins.
