Habits and skills
A habit is a routine you name, saved as a skill file. Prism stores habits and runs nothing.
A habit is a routine you save. Prism saves it as a skill file, and any agent can run it through the
habitstool.
See also the habits product page.
Habits
prism habit add saves the habit as a skill: ~/.prism/skills/<name>/SKILL.md, with the steps in a fixed layout. Prism does not run them, and it holds no credentials. Steps that look like a secret are refused.
prism habit add "start my day" --description "Open work for the morning" --step "github: list my open PRs" --step "linear: my in-progress issues" --output standupAsk your agent to run it by name (“run my start my day habit”). It calls the habits tool, gets the steps, and runs each one with its own tools. If a tool is not connected, it says so and continues. On Claude Code a habit runs when you name it, not by itself.
A step is source: action, with an optional filter after |. github, linear, notion, slack, gmail, calendar and jira are known labels. Any other label tells the agent to use whichever tool fits.
--output is standup, summary, checklist, table or free. --template is an optional layout.
prism habit list
prism habit show "start my day"
prism habit remove "start my day"prism habit edit opens $EDITOR on the habit's SKILL.md and checks it again on save. Keep the layout: # name, an optional Description: line, ## Steps as 1. source: action | filter, and ## Output as format: template.
Habits saved by an older Prism in ~/.prism/habits.json move to skill files the first time Prism reads them. The old file is kept as habits.json.migrated-<time>.bak.
Skills
Your agent's other skills are the host’s own files, such as .claude/skills/<name>/SKILL.md or .cursor/skills/<name>/SKILL.md. Prism does not own those files. The same folders in your home directory, and ~/.prism/skills, are included.
prism doctor skills reads skills that name a Prism tool and checks the name against the tools this install registers. A skill that names a tool which is not registered gets a warning with the file. Prism does not edit the skill.
Lenses
Dev, Architect and QA, plus a lens you add. One per session. Nine checks, no model.
Remember context
Notes you save with prism remember, and Living AGENTS.md, so Prepare hands back what you already decided.
