Prism 2.0.0

Prepare, lens review and receipts

current

Read the 2.0 release notes

Prism 2.0 is local software intelligence that catches what your coding agent missed. It gives the agent the right files before it edits, then checks the change. Everything runs on your machine. This is a clean break from 1.x.

Start

  • `npm i -g @prismapp/cli && prism start` installs Prism for the agents it finds (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, opencode), indexes the repo, prints the top of the map and shows what to try. prism install does the same per host. The CLI ships the matching MCP server and hook pack; the versions move in lockstep.
  • Install records what it writes, and uninstall removes exactly that. Installing over 1.x removes 1.x data; valid custom lenses and config keys are kept.
  • Hooks stay current after an upgrade. When a release changes Prism's hooks, the next Claude Code session updates Prism's own entries in settings.json, keeps your other hooks and writes a backup next to the file. If Prism's entries were edited by hand, Prism leaves them and prints one line with the prism install command to run. prism doctor shows the same check, and prism doctor --fix applies the update.
  • New prism stats and prism doctor --fix. prism doctor --surfaces lists every Prism entry each host can see.
  • prism strength full|lite|off sets how much the hooks do.

Before the edit

  • Prepare: the automatic file list holds at most 3 files Prism is sure of, with nearby tests and one run command. Files that changed in the same commits are ranked into that list.
  • The prompt hook runs in one Node process, inside the 1 s budget, with the same behaviour for Claude Code, opencode and the daemon-off path.
  • graph gains map and symbol modes; prism graph map prints a compact repo map.

After the edit

  • Receipts put the verdict first: SHIP, NOT PROVEN (with the cheapest command that would prove it) or NO-SHIP. Checks run your typecheck, lint and the tests the change reaches.
  • Review is guard_session with review: true. Findings say what, where, how to fix it, and the risk if you skip it.
  • Lenses are shared by every repository, with nine data-backed checks and custom trigger phrases. prism review --lens <name> prints one lens's checks (✓ passed, △ unproven, ✗ failed) with evidence.
  • test_impact returns a ready command for each package. Blast radius works per symbol, and type-only imports no longer count as cycles.

Agents

  • New habits tool and prism habit command for saved routines. Prism stores the steps; your agent runs them.
  • One prism skill replaces five earlier ones: prism-review-pr, prism-safe-change, prism-onboard, prism-lens and prism-habits.
  • Every tool takes maxTokens (200–12,000).

Removed

  • The 1.x VS Code and Cursor extensions, app-shell, playground, Dispatch, and the 1.x tool names and environment variables.
Legacy

1.x releases

Prism 2.0 is a clean break. It removed the 1.x VS Code and Cursor extensions, app-shell, playground, Dispatch, and the 1.x tool names and environment variables. The notes below are the 1.x releases as written at the time.

1.12.0

Agent-native: Prepare, Guard

Legacy 1.x

Cuts 1–3 of the agent-native program. One loop: prepare, edit, this repo’s checks, Guard, findings that stay open until a re-scan. Still local. No Prism account. Not an LLM product.

Intelligence

  • Changed in 2.0Honest lists — search_symbols and other list tools return a real totalCount. A cut list sets truncated: true.
  • Honest edges — import / call / feature edges carry measured | heuristic | inferred. Inferred is not load-bearing until you open the file.
  • True refs — two symbols with the same name stay ambiguous. They are not merged.
  • `prepare_change` — one call before you edit: pack, reuse, House Style, notes, work order. Paths and names only — never file bodies. CLI: prism prepare.
  • `guard_session` — rank this session’s dirty files (working tree minus preExistingChanges) by blast. Flags duplicates, orphans, boundary crossings.
  • Removed in 2.0Findings loop — unused export, duplicate implementation, wrapper. queue_finding starts a job. Resolved only when a re-scan drops the fingerprint.
  • Living AGENTS.md — prism agents-md generate writes only ~/.prism/workspaces/<key>/agents.md. --check fails stale claims. Never written into git.
  • Removed in 2.0Working set — files, symbols, decisions, neighbors so a compacted chat or job resume does not rediscover context.
  • Work order — in-scope, off-limits (generated/vendor), needs-sign-off. Advisory unless an Accepted ADR arms the write veto.
  • `remember` can attach a fact to a symbol or path; a rename moves it.

Console Removed in 2.0

  • Removed in 2.0Iris (#/iris) no longer mounts the repository map. Facts + last Prepare for the selected repo.
  • Removed in 2.0Findings Fix with teammate uses the same payload as queue_finding.
  • Removed in 2.0Pulse finding count is the open count from health history, not finished jobs.
  • Removed in 2.0Verify chip is — when this repo has no checks — never Failure from a missing typecheck.

Dispatch Removed in 2.0

  • Removed in 2.0After a teammate stops, Prism runs this repository’s checks (typecheck / lint / test families that exist, or Go / Cargo / pytest). Empty plan → skipped / —.
  • Removed in 2.0start_job injects the Prepare pack, reuse, House Style, and work-order off-limits when Iris is indexed. Still no file bodies. Worker still has no shell.

MCP

  • Changed in 2.0New tools: prepare_change, guard_session, queue_finding, list_findings, agents_md, working_set, work_order.
  • Keep @latest. Reload MCP after this publish.

CLI

Keep @latest. @repo-prism/dispatch@1.12.0, @repo-prism/dispatch-hub@1.12.0, @repo-prism/mcp-server@1.12.0, @repo-prism/shared@1.3.0, @repo-prism/indexer@1.0.3, @repo-prism/intelligence@1.1.0, @repo-prism/core@1.1.0, @repo-prism/host-session@1.2.0, @repo-prism/cli@1.1.0, and Prism extension 1.1.0. Engine packages that did not change stay @1.0.1 (analyzer, graph-engine, impact, navigation, repository-map).

See docs: Iris, Prepare a change, Guard a session, Findings.

  • prism prepare, prism agents-md generate|check, prism findings list|mute.

1.11.1

Skills history and Pulse meter

Legacy 1.x

Console Removed in 2.0

  • Removed in 2.0Published skills have version history (view, revert, delete, compare). Edit can Update Skill with teammate instructions.
  • Removed in 2.0Generate Skill shows Generating.. and Watch/Cancel on one line.
  • Removed in 2.0Dashboard Type filter lists Custom job, child jobs, and playbooks. Pulse shows jobs even when the checkout is not in the registry.
  • Removed in 2.0Pulse meter keeps pause as its own step. The status pill and notch match the last step. Running and paused bars are the same height as done, failed, and cancelled.
  • Removed in 2.0Worked time excludes paused time. Historical pauses stay solid amber; hatch only on the live pause.

Dispatch Removed in 2.0

  • Removed in 2.0Skill snapshots live under ~/.prism/dispatch/skills/<name>/versions/.

MCP

Keep @latest. @repo-prism/dispatch@1.11.1, @repo-prism/dispatch-hub@1.11.1, @repo-prism/mcp-server@1.11.1, @repo-prism/shared@1.2.2, @repo-prism/indexer@1.0.2, @repo-prism/core@1.0.2, engine packages @1.0.1 (analyzer, graph-engine, impact, navigation, intelligence, repository-map), and @repo-prism/host-session@1.1.18.

1.11.0

Global jobs, Wake, and Spectrum

Legacy 1.x

Console Removed in 2.0

  • Removed in 2.0Jobs live under ~/.prism (ADR-0054). Legacy {repo}/.prism/dispatch/jobs.json files are migrated. The dashboard no longer drops jobs whose checkout left the registry.
  • Removed in 2.0First-load migrate writes the global store before retiring leftovers, and recovers from jobs.json.migrated if that write never landed.
  • Removed in 2.0Wake shows Dispatch and Spectrum separately, with Close and Escape back to Dashboard.
  • Removed in 2.0Select repository lists every registered checkout, so switching after the first pick works.
  • Removed in 2.0Skills drafts save when you leave the editor, not on every name keystroke.
  • Removed in 2.0Trees keeps a short cache so switching tabs does not re-scan git worktrees.
  • Removed in 2.0Pulse treats finished work as worked, not waiting, and the Focus rail keeps Working when a job actually ran.
  • Removed in 2.0Pulse cards (Stitch) show Waited / Worked / Failed / Cancelled with timestamps, accordion chevrons, and Cancel next to Start anyway or Resume.
  • Removed in 2.0Footer links open Spectrum (maps, DNA, health) for the selected repo, and match each other in type.
  • Removed in 2.0Trees, Skills, and Pulse show skeleton cards while loading, and buttons use a spinner while an action is in flight.

Spectrum Removed in 2.0

  • Removed in 2.0Indexes the Dispatch-selected repository. It no longer falls back to the Prism checkout.
  • Removed in 2.0The path field is the same repository dropdown as Dispatch. Console DNA/Health links pass ?root=. A poll cannot snap you off a repo you picked.
  • Removed in 2.0Wake is the same screen as Console, with Close back to the page you were on.
  • Removed in 2.0Health charts label every day in a week-long window, and axis ticks use the product font. Build history shows a spinner and a toast.

Dispatch Removed in 2.0

  • Removed in 2.0listStoredWorkspaceRoots unions with the hub registry so a job stays findable after the checkout leaves the registered set.

MCP

Keep @latest. @repo-prism/dispatch@1.11.0, @repo-prism/dispatch-hub@1.11.0, @repo-prism/mcp-server@1.11.0, @repo-prism/shared@1.2.2, @repo-prism/indexer@1.0.2, @repo-prism/core@1.0.2, engine packages @1.0.1 (analyzer, graph-engine, impact, navigation, intelligence, repository-map), and @repo-prism/host-session@1.1.18.

  • Removed in 2.0prism wake / prism sleep speak Spectrum, not Playground.
  • Keep @latest. Reload MCP after this publish. Logs: prism-mcp 1.11.0: workspace ….

1.10.0

Skills, trees, and Impact

Legacy 1.x

Console Removed in 2.0

  • Removed in 2.0Skills is a first-class view: grouped Prism skills live in ~/.prism, not the repo, and Generate writes one from a brief.
  • Removed in 2.0Trees shows the checkout versus linked worktrees and which job owns each.
  • Removed in 2.0Focus can export a job; compose has a generate line for skill playbooks.

Dispatch Removed in 2.0

  • Removed in 2.0Workers get a short orientation so a teammate starts with repo context instead of a cold tree.
  • Removed in 2.0Overlap checks keep concurrent jobs from silently stacking on the same paths.
  • Removed in 2.0Skill playbook jobs write into the global skills store.

Intelligence

  • Impact is one workspace: Explain, Blast radius, and Review changes share a target. Use dirty files on every tab.
  • Trends and Overview commit charts have real X/Y axes and hover, not native title tooltips.

MCP

Keep @latest. @repo-prism/dispatch@1.10.0, @repo-prism/dispatch-hub@1.10.0, @repo-prism/mcp-server@1.10.0, @repo-prism/core@1.0.2, engine packages @1.0.1 (analyzer, graph-engine, impact, navigation, indexer, intelligence, repository-map), @repo-prism/shared@1.2.1, and @repo-prism/host-session@1.1.18.

  • Keep @latest. Reload MCP after this publish. Logs: prism-mcp 1.10.0: workspace ….

1.9.0

Job graph, sleep and wake

Legacy 1.x

Console Removed in 2.0

  • Removed in 2.0Focus draws an append-only job graph (Accepted → Queued → Working). Pause then resume adds a new Working node; the rail never rewinds.
  • Removed in 2.0Pulse is the inbox: Live / Needs you / Settled. The extra Needs Action tab is gone.
  • Removed in 2.0Related jobs is a parent/child tree with status dots and a You marker.
  • Removed in 2.0Stuck jobs offer Resume; review jobs offer Keep all. Pulse left-edge colors match the graph.

MCP

  • Removed in 2.0prism sleep parks the Console and playground and holds the queue; prism wake brings both back and starts queued jobs. Confirms first if teammates are already running.
  • Removed in 2.0Cursor worker state lives in ~/.prism/dispatch/agent-store, not the repo.

Dispatch Removed in 2.0

Keep @latest. @repo-prism/dispatch@1.9.0, @repo-prism/dispatch-hub@1.9.0, and @repo-prism/mcp-server@1.9.0.

  • Removed in 2.0Job lifecycle is append-only. Hub snapshots include it so resume draws as a new Working node, not a rewind.

1.8.2

Dispatch stays a teammate

Legacy 1.x

Dispatch Removed in 2.0

  • Removed in 2.0Dispatch: a worktree job started on a PR branch now carries that branch's commits. When the branch exists only on a remote (origin/<branch>), Prism bases the worktree on the remote ref instead of your current HEAD, so a review teammate sees the PR and no longer falls back to editing inline.

MCP

Keep @latest. @repo-prism/dispatch@1.8.2 and @repo-prism/mcp-server@1.8.2.

  • Removed in 2.0MCP: configure dispatchMode=auto (and inline) sticks again. The setting was documented but missing from the tool schema, so the host stayed on ask and kept routing changes inline. You can set the mode from chat once more.

1.8.1

MCP start

Legacy 1.x
  • Removed in 2.0MCP: npx @repo-prism/mcp-server starts again. 1.8.0 imported formatDuration from @repo-prism/shared while the published shared@1.1.1 did not export it, so the process died before handshake (-32000 Connection closed). shared is now 1.2.0 and ships those duration helpers.
  • Removed in 2.0Keep @latest. @repo-prism/shared@1.2.0, @repo-prism/dispatch-hub@1.8.1, and @repo-prism/mcp-server@1.8.1.

1.8.0

Fleet Console

Legacy 1.x

Console Removed in 2.0

  • Removed in 2.0Pulse, Board, and List are three views of the same jobs canvas. New job is a verb on the board, not only a sentence in chat.
  • Removed in 2.0Live cards show wait and work as two meters. Billed in/out lives in Focus, not on Pulse.
  • Removed in 2.0Attention is the inbox for jobs that need you. A finding can hand a brief to a teammate instead of dying as a note.

Website Removed in 2.0

  • Removed in 2.0prismhq.in now leads with Dispatch, Intelligence, and Iris — theaters for DNA, blast radius, and domains, and Spectrum as the map they already share.
  • Removed in 2.0Install is a vertical wizard. What's new is this magazine. Docs stay the command center.

MCP

Keep @latest. @repo-prism/dispatch@1.8.0, @repo-prism/dispatch-hub@1.8.0, and @repo-prism/mcp-server@1.8.0.

  • Removed in 2.0The Console is another door onto start_job. Compose a brief, pick a playbook, default to checkout. Chat still works.
  • Keep @latest; hop on the next Cursor/MCP start. Logs: prism-mcp 1.8.0: workspace ….

1.1.17

Shippable product

Legacy 1.x

MCP

  • Removed in 2.0Dispatch is a teammate in the same prism server: queue a change from chat (start_job), watch it in the local Console, and keep connectors in the host window. Prism does not run OAuth and does not hold vendor tokens.
  • Removed in 2.0A job is durable the moment it is queued. The clock starts when work starts and stops when it finishes. Dirty trees and overlap become a visible job state instead of a silent refusal.
  • Removed in 2.0Workers read Prism intelligence from the Console's existing index. They cannot start jobs and they do not get a second copy of the repo in memory.
  • MCP roots are retried and subscribed. You do not set CURSOR_WORKSPACE. npx -y --prefer-online @repo-prism/mcp-server@latest is the install; hop on the next Cursor/MCP start. Logs: prism-mcp 1.1.17: workspace ….

CLI

  • Install and day-to-day use live on one Get Started page and one Usage page — CLI, IDE, and MCP as tabs, not three sidebars.
  • prism doctor still confirms the workspace and the index. Analysis stays local; nothing is uploaded.

IDE Removed in 2.0

Keep @latest. @repo-prism/dispatch@1.1.17, @repo-prism/dispatch-hub@1.1.17, and @repo-prism/mcp-server@1.1.17.

  • Removed in 2.0The extension opens the same Console the agent watches: Jobs, Workflows, and Host Connectors. There is no Prism sign-in and no connect flow inside the panel.
  • Removed in 2.0A job that finishes is ready for your review in the checkout (or on its branch if you asked for a worktree). Nothing is merged or pushed for you.
